Man arrested after Williamstown aggravated burglary and police car ramming

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad have arrested a man following an aggravated burglary and ramming of a police vehicle in Williamstown this morning.

Investigators have been told two armed men gained access to an industrial property on Byron Street just after 5.45am this morning.

The men knocked on the door, before discharging a shot into the ground and making demands for the male victim’s phone and keys.

Two vehicles were stolen from the address – a grey Mercedes and a Silver BMW – which were used to flee the scene.

The stolen Mercedes was then travelling along Kororoit Creek Road when it rammed a police vehicle shortly after.

The police car sustained minor damage, but the members were not physically injured.

With assistance from the Air Wing the vehicle was followed to Highton, where the male driver was arrested attempting to run from the car on foot.

A 23-year-old Corio man remains in custody and will now be interviewed by police.

Three males inside the property, a 25-year-old, a 23-year-old and a 6-year-old, were not physically injured the incident.

The silver BMW remains outstanding and the investigation into identifying the other male involved remains ongoing.

Police believe the incident was targeted.
