A man has faced court charged over multiple car break ins across Sydney’s CBD earlier this month.
In September 2026, Sydney City Police Area Command detectives and proactive crime team commenced investigations into a series of car break ins across Pyrmont, Ultimo and Haymarket.
As part of the investigations, police determined the break ins occurred between Thursday 10 September 2026 and Saturday 19 September 2026, with an estimated value of $15,000.
Following extensive inquiries, about 8.15pm on Saturday (19 September 2026), police arrested a 40-year-old man in Mountain Street Reserve, Ultimo.
During the arrest, police located and seized a high-end handbag – allegedly stolen a short time before the arrest – containing $12,000 worth of stolen property.
Following the arrest, the 40-year-old was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with:
- Destroy or damage property (four counts)
- Stealing (four counts)
- Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner (four counts)
- Dishonestly obtain property by deception (ten counts)
- Hinder or resist police in execution of duty
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 7 on Monday 21 September 2026, where he was formally refused bail to appear before the Dowing Centre Local Court on Monday 28 September 2026.
