Man charged after allegedly detaining woman near Wollongong, NSW

A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly detained against her will at a home near Wollongong last night.

About 6.30pm (Sunday 20 January 2019), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were called to the property on Second Avenue, Warrawong, about 10km south of Wollongong, following reports a woman had been injured during a domestic-related incident.

Police will allege the man held the woman against her will, threatening her with a firearm before she escaped and alerted police.

The 25-year-old woman suffered minor injuries to her arms and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Following inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested outside a home on Second Avenue, Warrawong, just before 11am today (Monday 21 January 2019).

He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with kidnap with intent to commit serious indictable offence occasion actual bodily harm, beach AVO, possess prohibited weapon (x3), possess prohibited drug and cultivate prohibited plant.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 22 January 2019).
