Man charged after allegedly making threatening calls to businesses – Bega

A man has been charged after allegedly making threatening calls to a number of businesses on the South Coast.

In February 2026, officers attached to South Coast Police District received two reports about a person allegedly making threatening and sexually explicit calls from a payphone in Bega.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District commenced inquiries.

About 3pm yesterday (Thursday 16 April 2026), officers received another report of threatening phone calls being made from a payphone on Newtown Road, Bega.

Officers responded and allegedly chased a 28-year-old man, before he was arrested a short distance away.

The man was taken to Bega Police Station and charged with three counts of carriage service to menace/harass/offend and escape police custody.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 3 today (Friday 17 April 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 20 April 2026.
