Man charged after loaded shortened firearm seized in Toukley

A man will appear in court today after being charged with possessing a shortened firearm at Toukley overnight.

About 10.45pm on Thursday 3 January 2019, police were called to Crossingham Street after reports that a man was walking around with a firearm.

Police from Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended and identified a home in the street where the man was believed to have gone.

The officers attended and after speaking to a woman in the premises, commenced a search.

A 44-year-old man in the home was spoken to by the officers who subsequently located a loaded shotgun on the rear roof of the home.

Officers also seized several other items for forensic examination.

The man was arrested and conveyed to Wyong Police Station.

He was later charged with possess shortened firearm without authority, not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm, possess ammunition without holding licence and acquire firearm – subject to prohibition order.

He has been refused bail to appear at Wyong Bail Court today (Saturday 5 January 2019).
