Man charged after officer allegedly assaulted – Mascot Police Station

A man will face court after a senior female police officer was allegedly assaulted while he was in custody at Mascot Police Station.

About 3.45pm today (Thursday 16 July 2026), a female Sergeant was performing custody duties at Mascot Police Station, dealing with a 39-year-old man in custody, when he was given access to the toilet facilities within the custody facility.

After being returned to the cell, the man allegedly grabbed hold of the Sergeant by the head and delivered

five punches, alternating between his left and right fists, all connecting with the Sergeant’s face.

The Sergeant managed to activate a duress alarm, at which time the man allegedly ran to a nearby exit and attempted to escape from the charge room.

Other police inside the station went to the Sergeant’s aid and prevented the man from escaping.

The Sergeant sustained extensive bleeding and swelling to her face. She was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and conveyed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for a medical assessment on a possible broken nose and further facial injuries.

The man was re-arrested and charged with assault police officer in execution of duty and occasion actual bodily harm, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and inmate escape/attempt to escape from lawful custody.

He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 7 tomorrow, (Friday 17 July 2026).
