A man has been charged following a series of dangerous driving incidents across the Gold Coast yesterday, 3 August.
It will be alleged that around 4pm, police identified a white LDV D90 station wagon travelling in Surfers Paradise after the occupants were allegedly involved in the attempted unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
The vehicle was monitored by POLAIR as it travelled through Surfers Paradise to Molendinar and Ashmore.
It will be further alleged the driver engaged in dangerous driving over several hours, including mounting footpaths and forcing pedestrians to take evasive action to avoid being struck.
On several occasions it is alleged a passenger stood through the vehicle’s sunroof and threw ignited flares onto roads in Southport.
Around 7.10pm, the vehicle stopped on The Crescent at Ashmore, where the occupants allegedly fled on foot.
The passenger was taken into custody at the scene, while the driver was located a short time later at a Mulyan Place address, where he was taken into custody with the assistance of the dog squad.
During a search, police allegedly located a quantity of methylamphetamine in his possession.
A 35-year-old Oxley man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, obstructing a police officer and driving a motor vehicle while disqualified.
He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today, 4 August.
