Man charged following property crime investigation at Yatala, QLD

Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following an investigation into property offences at industrial sites in Yatala and Stapylton.

At approximately 11am on 6 July, officers attended a development site on Telford Circuit at Yatala, following reports that unknown people were unlawfully on the premises.

Police will allege the site’s front gate had been damaged and people at the location were stripping copper from suspected stolen property, including air-conditioning units, power boxes and switchboards.

During a search of the premises, police allegedly located a quantity of suspected stolen property concealed beneath a tarp, including power tools, switchboards, copper cabling and other items that did not belong to the worksite.

Officers also located a man inside a stolen white Isuzu D-Max utility and arrested him. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered additional property and other items relevant to the investigation.

Further investigations allegedly linked the man to a break and enter at an industrial construction site on Christensen Road South, Stapylton, on 5 July. Police will allege offenders entered the site, forced entry into two storage containers, stole construction equipment and unlawfully used a company utility.

A 28-year-old Jamboree Heights man has been charged with three counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of enter premises and commit an indictable offence, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing utensils or pipes that had been used, and authority required to possess explosives.

He is due to appear before Beenleigh Magistrates Court on 27 July.

Investigations remain ongoing.
