Man charged following pursuit in Hebersham

A man has been charged with 30 offences following a pursuit with police in Sydney’s north-west yesterday.

About 10.30am (Tuesday 8 January 2019), police attended a unit complex on Vallingby Avenue, Hebersham, to speak with a man regarding outstanding domestic violence related matters.

Upon arrival, a man was seen leaving in an alleged stolen Mazda CX-7 and officers attempted to stop it.

The Mazda failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated, travelling through local streets.

Whilst travelling along Jersey Road, the Mazda turned right into Popondetta Road at Blackett, colliding head-on with a Holden Commodore.

The Mazda reserved and continued driving along Jersey Road.

At the intersection of Jersey Road and Carlisle Avenue, the driver lost control and hit a police vehicle.

The Mazda mounted the kerb and drove through the diving fences of homes on Jersey Road before colliding with a telegraph pole.

Following a struggle with officers, the driver, a 28-year-old man was arrested.

The Holden driver, a 37- year old pregnant woman was taken to Nepean Hospital as a precaution and has since been released.

The man was taken to Riverstone Police Station before being transferred to Blacktown Hospital under police guard.

He was later returned to Riverstone Police Station and charged with numerous offences,

  • Aggravated break & enter & commit serious indictable offence – people there
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
  • Destroy or damage property
  • Use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence (x3)
  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic)(x5)
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (Domestic)(x2)
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (x2)
  • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (x2)
  • Use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention etc (x2)
  • Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner/occupier
  • Larceny
  • Take & drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,
  • Resist officer in execution of duty
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm
  • Possess housebreaking implements
  • Outstanding warrants

It will be alleged; the man was involved in a pursuit with police in the Taree area on Saturday 5 January 2019.

He was refused bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court today (Wednesday 9 January 2019).
