A man will face court today charged following a pursuit in the state’s northeast.
Operation Regional Mongoose is a high-visibility police operation to tackle serious property-related crime committed predominately by young offenders.
Just after 2.15am today (Monday 15 April 2024), police were conducting high visibility patrols when they attempted to stop an allegedly stolen Toyota Prado, on Hillvue Road, Tamworth.
When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. A short time later, the vehicle came to a stop after hitting a gutter on Rodgers Road.
After a short foot pursuit, the driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.
He was charged with:
- take and drive conveyance without consent of owner,
- police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly,
- never licensed person drive vehicle on road,
- enter enclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse,
- destroy or damage property,
- possess housebreaking implements, and
- breach of bail.
Police will allege in court that the car was stolen from a home on Gorman Street, Tamworth, overnight.
The man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Monday 15 April 2024).
