Man charged over alleged NSW Government grant fraud – SF Sainsbery

A man has been charged following extensive inquiries into alleged fraudulent NSW Government grant applications.

Strike Force Sainsbery was established by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad and all Sydney Metropolitan Regions in November 2021 to investigate fraudulent COVID-19 financial relief claims.

Since it was formed, strike force detectives have charged 89 people with a total of 1522 charges.

Following ongoing extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 33-year-old man about 9.30am today (Saturday 4 November 2023) following a vehicle stop on Dora Street at Morisset.

He was taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with 15 counts of dishonestly cause financial disadvantage etc by deception, and one count of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

The man was given bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on 16 November 2023.

Police will allege the man submitted 16 fraudulent claims to Service NSW as part of the COVID-19 Micro Business Support Grants.

The man received a total of $168,000.
