Man charged over Fairfield Heights public place shooting

Detectives have charged a man over an alleged public place shooting in Sydney’s west earlier this month.

About 4.30pm on Sunday 13 August 2023, officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command were called to Stanley Street, Fairfield Heights, following reports a shot had been fired from a parked car.

Police will allege in court a 20-year-old man approached a vehicle when he was threatened by a man inside the car, armed with a firearm.

It’s further alleged the man fired a single shot towards the 20-year-old before it passed through the front door of a nearby home and into an internal wall. One person was home at the time but was uninjured.

The 20-year-old ran from the scene, as the other man exited the vehicle allegedly running after him.

A short time later, he returned to the vehicle and drove from the scene.

Shortly after 5pm, a silver Mercedes sedan, was found partially alight in Chowne Place at Yennora.

Crime scenes were established at both locations and inquiries commenced by Fairfield City detectives under Strike Force Bandjalong.

Detectives were assisted by investigators attached to Task Force Magnus, a proactive policing strategy established to target and disrupt gun-related and violent crime, and to investigate links between recent organised criminal activity in Sydney.

Following investigations, Fairfield City detectives – assisted by Task Force Magnus and the Tactical Operations Unit – executed a search warrant at a home at Middleton Grange about 5.30am today (Wednesday 30 August 2023), where they arrested a 29-year-old man.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with shoot at with intent to murder, and fire firearm in or near public place.

The man was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court later today.

Investigations under Task Force Magnus are continuing.
