Man charged, prohibited weapons and drugs seized in Murrumbidgee

A man has been charged after a Firearms Prohibition Order and Weapons Prohibitions Order search was conducted on a property in the state’s Murrumbidgee region earlier this week.

About 6.15am (Wednesday 10 August 2022), officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District, with assistance from the Operational Support Group, executed a Firearms Prohibition Order and Weapons Prohibitions Order at a property on Slopes Road, Tharbogang.

During a search of the property, police seized a trench knife, a quantity of cannabis.

Detectives also located a Honda Prelude parked on the property, which police will allege contained a double side-by-side shotgun, two .22 calibre rifles, a revolver, several firearm parts and a number of bags containing various ammunition types.

Police also seized three statues believed to be the proceeds of an alleged break and enter on Yenda Place, earlier this year.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with one count each of use prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order, possess prohibited drug, and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.

The Tharbogang man appeared in Griffith Local Court yesterday (Thursday 11 August 2022) where he was granted conditional bail to appear in the same court on Wednesday 21 September 2022.
