Man dies after being swept off rocks at Wollongong, NSW

A man has died after being swept off rocks at Wollongong today.

About 12.50pm (Monday 11 July 2022), emergency services were called to Belmore Basin, Wollongong, following reports a rockfisher had been swept off the rocks.

A male in a small boat went to the man’s aid, before a male constable attached to Wollongong Police District jumped in to assist.

The 73-year-old man was brought back to shore, but he could not be revived and died at the scene.

Police have since commenced an investigation and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
