Man extradited from Queensland over murder charge, NSW

A man will appear in court today after being extradited from Queensland over the alleged murder of William Chaplin.

Detectives from Murray River Police District commenced an investigation under Strike Force Demetrius into the disappearance of William Chaplin who hasn’t been seen in almost a decade.

William Chaplin, then aged 25, was last seen in Gerogery, approximately 30km north of Albury, in early to mid-May 2010.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with the assistance of Queensland Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 25-year-old man in Townsville, about 9.30am (Thursday 5 September 2019).

He appeared at Townsville Magistrates Court on Friday 6 September 2019, where detectives applied for and were granted his extradition to NSW.

The Townsville man was escorted by police on a flight back to Sydney yesterday (Saturday 7 September 2019).

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Sunday 8 September 2019).
