A man will face court tomorrow after police seized a firearm and ammunition.
On Friday 22 July, members of the Crime Gangs Task Force attended a Wingfield business as part of an ongoing investigation into the Comanchero Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
Police searched a vehicle at the address and located a handgun and a box of ammunition secreted within the vehicle.
The firearm, which had a partially removed serial number, and ammunition were seized for forensic examination.
As a result of further investigation, on Friday 29 July, Crime Gangs Task Force detectives arrested a 38-year-old Glenelg man at Adelaide Airport. He was charged with possess a firearm while unlicensed, possess a defaced firearm and fail to store ammunition separately from a firearm.
He did not apply for bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday 1 August.
Detective Chief Inspector Darren Fielke, Acting Officer in Charge Serious and Organised Crime Branch said, “Firearms trafficking is a very serious offence and Police will continue to investigate and combat the trafficking of firearms with as many resources as are necessary. Illegal firearms have no place in the community and particularly when they are in the hands of criminals. Anyone with any knowledge about this incident or other illegal firearms are encouraged to contact police.
“This particular handgun is yet to be forensically examined so any details as to the origins of the handgun before it was seized by detectives is unknown at this time.”
