Police are investigating a serious crash in which a man was injured after falling from a moving vehicle.
Police and emergency services were called to attend Bartley Street, Hadspen, about 7.45pm on Friday in relation to a man that had been injured after falling from a moving vehicle.
The 34 year old man from Hadspen sustained significant injuries and remains in a stable but critical condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Investigations have confirmed that the injured man was travelling in the tray of the utility with his brother while the male driver and another man were inside the cab of the vehicle.
It appears at this stage that the injured man was standing up in the tray of the utility and fell from there onto the roadway. Speed does not appear to have been involved but it is believed that alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
Inspector Darren Hopkins said: “The man has sustained significant and life threatening injuries as a result of falling onto the road. I would take the opportunity to remind people that travelling unrestrained in a vehicle or in the tray of a utility is unsafe and risky behaviour to engage in.”
Police are seeking any witnesses who may have seen the group of men travelling in an older style Holden Rodeo flat tray ute in the Hadspen area to contact Northern Crash Investigation Services on ph. 6777 3936.
