Man sustains fractured skull during assault in Redfern

A man has been charged after another man suffered a fractured skull during an alleged assault in Redfern earlier this week.

About 2pm on Monday (20 January 2020), emergency services were called to a carpark on Marriott Street, following reports two men had been injured.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended and located two men, one with a head injury, and the other suffering minor facial injuries.

Police will allege in court that two men, aged 41 and 46, were arguing when another man, who was unknown to them, attempted to intervene.

The 46-year-old man allegedly assaulted the man assisting, also aged 46, which caused him to fall and hit his head on the pavement. He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 41-year-old man received minor injuries and did not require any medical attention.

Shortly after, police arrested a 46-year-old Redfern man at the scene before he was taken to Mascot Police Station.

He was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and common assault.

The man was refused bail and appeared in Central Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 21 January 2020), where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Tuesday 4 February 2020.
