Managing sprains and strains in retail tyre industry

Are you a retail tyre industry employer looking to reduce the costs associated with work-related sprain and strain injuries and make the workshop safer?

A new pilot project, led by WorkCover Queensland and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, is helping employers in the retail tyre industry to address the risk factors contributing to these injuries.

For participating employers, we will be providing free tips and advice on preventing work-related sprains and strains, and what to do after a claim has been accepted.

This includes site visits, offering guidance and support for participating employers on better ways to manage hazardous manual tasks and slips, trips and falls, the leading causes for work-related musculoskeletal injury in Queensland.

Employers will be encouraged to address the risks by using effective work design solutions that don’t rely solely on the fitness of individual workers. Solutions could include:

  • fixing or sourcing a pneumatic tyre lifter for the tyre changer
  • review how tyres are received, stored and retrieved, or
  • improve lighting, clean up spills, or tidy walkways to avoid slips, trips and falls.
