As any parent or sibling with a new, small member of the family knows, life doesn’t stop with a growing newborn baby!
Brimbank Mayor, Cr Georgina Papafotiou said while Maternal and Child Health centres are closed during the coronavirus crisis, our teams are still here supporting local families and babies.
‘Council recognises these times can be anxious and overwhelming for everyone – especially for families who have just welcomed a new baby into their lives.
‘Council is continuing to provide support and care for families at this important developmental stage.
‘Our Maternal and Child Health nurses are continuing to deliver essential services to Brimbank families during the coronavirus crisis, by offering consultations over the phone. We are also keeping consultations to 15 minutes for babies aged 0-8 weeks.
‘Parents can weigh their babies in our waiting room, to help limit physical contact during an appointment.
‘We’re asking families to limit the number of people who come into the centre. We would prefer mum, dad, baby and siblings only to attend.
‘Our infant immunisation service is also still running, with some changes in place to ensure social distancing is practised,’ Cr Papafotiou said.
Over-the-phone consultations for babies aged over 8 weeks will continue until further notice. There will be no drop-in services but First Time Parent Groups will be conducted through weekly over-the-phone consultations.
Families can also contact the Maternal and Child Health Line on 13 22 29 (24 hours a day/ 7 days a week).
