Matriarch is an original and dynamic one-woman show coming to The Bowery for the first time in February.
The show celebrates the strength and resilience of four Gumbaynggirr women, spanning over 100 years of Australian history.
Matriarch was a hit show at last year’s Yirramboi Festival, the 2018 Melbourne Fringe Festival and winner of a Green Room Award for best performance.
Presented by Jinda Productions and The Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group, Sandy Greenwood’s production vividly brings to life the matriarchs of her own family through a combination of drama, dance and music.
Matriarch explores cultural identity, the effects of intergenerational trauma and what it means to be a fair skin black woman in modern Australia.
The show is written and performed by Sandy Greenwood and will be followed by an ‘In Conversation’ session hosted by Jacqueline Watkins.
The show will be staged at The Bowery for two sessions on Friday 14 February.
