The City of Playford and Marni Waiendi are proud to announce the return of the May Graham-Turner Aboriginal Education Scholarship.
For the second year running Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are eligible to apply for the $1000 scholarship to use towards their education at any South Australian University, TAFE SA or South Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
With many Playford households being impacted by cost-of-living pressure, there has never been a more important time to provide financial support to those seeking higher education.
The scholarship can be spent on any costs involved with training or study, including, student fees, travel expenses, equipment, software, childcare, stationery, tools, uniforms, and textbooks.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said he welcomed the return of the scholarship for 2023.
“I’m thrilled the scholarship is back. Last year’s recipient was able to use the financial support to buy himself textbooks and support his travel fees to and from university,” Mayor Docherty said.
“Many people are struggling with the cost of living. This is a great opportunity to help alleviate those financial burdens and help scholarship recipients focus on training to build their future and achieve their dreams.”
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, applicants must reside in the City of Playford, identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and be enrolled as a full-time student at any South Australian university, a vocational training course at TAFE SA or South Australian RTO.
Aunty May Graham-Turner was a well-known Kaurna woman in the Playford community for her commitment to caring for others through her work at the Lyell McEwin Hospital. Aunty May brought laughter and hope to the sick and terminally ill. The scholarship is to honour Aunty May and carry on her legacy.
