Last week was a real opportunity to reflect on the value volunteers add to our community through two quite different activities.

Last Thursday evening marked a “packed house” celebration, at the Highlands Society, of the seventy years service to our community by Maryborough Rotary Club. Council CEO Lucy Roffey and I were delighted to represent Council.

The event was packed with local and guest speakers who recognised the endless and continuing array of projects and activities which Maryborough Rotary has contributed to and; the fundraising which have enabled so many wonderful community outcomes to happen which otherwise might have remained pipe dreams.

A fascinating history of Maryborough Rotary covering the period 1999-2022 complied with great care by Geoff James was released.

Congratulations to President Garry Higgins OAM and his hard working team for organising such a brilliant celebration.

At our March Council meeting, we received the report of the Maryborough Aerodrome Community Task Force after many months of hard work by six highly talented and and experienced members of our community. That report led to important decisions for the future of our Aerodrome, reflecting Council’s clear vision for the Aerodrome and it’s central role to our sustainable growth.

The contribution of Neil Arbuthnot as Chair and Rodney Brown as a key advocate need to be especially acknowledged. The report will serve us well.

The work of the Task Force is an important reminder of the depth and breadth of capability within our community.
