Summary of key points

Throughout the engagement, some key themes emerged:

  • A strong desire for greater granularity in statistics, especially geographic granularity.
  • A high level of feedback around environmental statistics and their connection to various domains.
  • Interest in Beyond GDP from a wide range of participating customers.
  • Frequent feedback around continuing current high-standard statistical work while also focusing on statistical maintenance.

About the engagement

Planning for the future

We are currently planning the future of economic statistics. This planning is taking place now due to changing international standards, a shift in customer needs and the continued impact of events such as COVID-19.

We have adopted a customer-centred approach to the prioritisation of statistical products and services. It is important to us that our customers are at the centre of planning the future of economics statistics.

Consultation paper

In February 2023, we published Measuring an inclusive and sustainable economy, which asked for feedback on what we thought were higher, medium, and lower priority initiatives for the next several years. These initiatives focus on updating, upgrading, or maintaining relevance of economic statistical outputs.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on this document.
