The Carroll Labor Government has removed another dangerous and congested level crossing in Dandenong.
A new underpass near Webster Street opened today, making journeys safer and more reliable.
Every level crossing on the Pakenham, Cranbourne and Sunbury lines is now gone for good.
That’s 100 kilometres of track – level crossing-free.
The 450-metre road underpass links Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street to Cheltenham and Hammond roads.
It includes a new intersection at Princes Highway-Lonsdale Street – easing congestion for the more than 10,000 vehicles that use it each day.
Boom gates were down for more than half the morning peak – delaying drivers and pedestrians by over an hour.
That’s now history.
Around 2,000 locals were among the first to walk the new road at a free community event on Sunday.
The underpass has been painted in vibrant greens, reds and yellows to reflect Dandenong’s diverse character.
A new path along Webster Street links to the Dandenong Trail, delivering better walking and cycling connections.
60 car spaces at Dandenong Station car park have now reopened.
Labor has now removed 96 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne, transforming the way people live, work and travel.
