Melbourne will host the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 April 2027, including Australia’s first-ever Formula 1 Sprint Race.
Minister for Major Events Anthony Carbines today confirmed the dates for the 2027 Grand Prix following a record-breaking 2026 event that attracted 500,000 estimated attendees.
The 2027 event will make history with Melbourne’s first Formula 1 Sprint Race – one of just ten Sprint events expected to feature on the 2027 Formula 1 calendar.
The Sprint Race will give fans even more action across Friday and Saturday ahead of the main race on Sunday.
The Sprint will add even more excitement to Piastri’s home race with the star set to compete in his first Australian Grand Prix Sprint in front of a home crowd.
Labor secured the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne until 2037, locking in a major tourism and economic driver for Victoria and attracting fans from across Australia and around the world.
The 2026 Grand Prix delivered a record 95.6 per cent hotel occupancy on Saturday, boosting Melbourne’s hotels, restaurants and hospitality businesses, according to CoStar.
The 2027 Grand Prix will coincide with the Victorian school holidays, giving families the chance to enjoy world-class racing alongside Melbourne’s dining, culture and attractions.
Fans will also get to experience the new pit building when gates open in April, with the 2027 race utilising a combination of existing, new and temporary facilities.
Originally built in 1995, the pit building is being replaced with completed garages and a new 2,500-capacity Melbourne Podium Club to feature in 2027 ahead of completion in 2028.
