Men armed with machetes attempt to steal bike in Springvale South

Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for information following the attempted theft of a bicycle in Springvale South last week.

Police have been told a 16-year-old Kew boy agreed to meet a man at a park on the corner of Springvale and Heatherton roads about 5.30pm on 8 August to sell a bicycle as part of an online social media sale.

Two men produced a machete when the victim got out of the car to do the sale and tried to steal the bicycle from the back of the car.

The victim’s driver got out of the car and approached the offenders before they fled on foot empty-handed.

There were no injuries.

Police have released video footage of two men they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The men are believed to be in their teens, approximately 170cm tall and were wearing full face coverings and non-distinctive clothing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
