Mental Health Week: We all have a role to play

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental Health Week is a chance for everyone to participate in activities and events that encourage mental health self-care, and support others to do the same.

It is important for everyone in the community to be aware that looking after our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health.

Today, I joined the Mental Health Council of Tasmania to officially launch Mental Health Week.

This year’s theme reminds us that ‘we all have a role to play’, with every Tasmanian encouraged to check in with their own mental health, but also check in with neighbours, friends and the community.

During this Mental Health Week, we are encouraging all Tasmanians to:

  • Check in on your own mental health;
  • Check in with a neighbour;
  • Check in with a friend;
  • Check in on what’s happening in your community; and
  • Check in for a mental health check up with a trusted health professional, like your GP.

We all want to see a Tasmania where people are happier, healthier and more resilient, which is why the Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to delivering our $104 million mental health plan, which supports evidence-based care, and an increased focus on early intervention and prevention, and service integration.

Mental Health Week is being held from October 6 to 12. Visit www.mhct.org for the full program of events across the State.
