A new Commonwealth mental health funding package will provide a significant service boost as COVID increases demand for counselling and mental health support services, according to Meridian, the ACT’s leading provider of LGBTIQ health services.
The Commonwealth has pledged an additional $100,000 to Meridian.
CEO, Philippa Moss, said it was an important boost at a critical moment.
“The COVID lockdown has plunged many people into isolation, upsetting their normal social and work rhythms.
“For LGBTIQ people it is critically important to have access to support that affirms their sexual and gender identity and doesn’t trigger renewed trauma.
“This additional funding allows us to better meet increased demand and help people through this challenging time.
“We thank the Commonwealth for this additional commitment, which will significantly improve our capacity to support people with sensitive, focused services.”
