Message from the Minister for Immigration, citizenship and multicultural affairs

Department of Home Affairs

Islamic new year

I send warm greetings to the Muslim Australians who are celebrating the arrival of a new Hijri year.

The end of one year and the beginning of another naturally brings an opportunity to reflect on the struggles and accomplishments of the past year, as well as to prepare with hope for the future that lies ahead.

As we contemplate the endurance and faith of those early Muslims who migrated to Medina and the hope they cherished for the future they could build there, we can see that same spirit alive in the dedication of Australia’s Muslim community towards contributing to the future we are shaping in our multicultural and multi-faith nation.

I wish all of you a joyous and prosperous new year.
