A virtual jobs fair for residents of the Mid North Coast NSW was held today to showcase employment opportunities and connect job seekers with local employers.
The Government funded event connected job seekers and more than 30 exhibitors, including 21 local businesses and service providers offering a range of diverse employment opportunities.
Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, said the virtual jobs fair is a great example of how the Government is responding quickly and innovating to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Morrison Government prior to COVID-19 regularly held jobs fairs around the country. They have been extremely successful with over 30,000 people attending jobs fairs in the last two years,” Minister Cash said.
“There were many opportunities on offer, including more than 500 jobs, with opportunities in aged care, construction, defence, and emergency services, as well as apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities.”
Member for Page, Kevin Hogan MP, said the virtual jobs fair was a great success with 605 local job seekers registering and attending during the course of the day.
“I am committed to seeing locals back into jobs, that’s why we provide these opportunities to allow employees to interact with employers,” Mr Hogan said.
Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie said, this technology allows us to offer a more flexible arrangement for those wishing to participate in the jobs fairs as either a job seeker or an employer.
“Our goal is to help job seekers find a job. The best part was, you were able to attend this event from the comfort of your own home just by using your desktop computer or smartphone,” Dr Gillespie said.
Member for Cowper, Pat Conaghan MP, said the event was great for the people of the Mid North Coast to learn about local growth industries and discover where a vocational education and training (VET) qualification could take them.”
“Today’s virtual jobs fair gave great information about employment services, offered practical tips on how to effectively look for work and learn about the current skills demanded of industry,” Mr Hogan said.
