Minor Flood Warning in place

An Initial Minor Flood Warning is in place for the Macleay River.

Low lying areas are advised to prepare for a rise in the Macleay River as a peak moves downstream following heavy rain in the catchment area.

Bellbrooke Bridge is closed.

Kempsey Shire Council has recorded another rise in the Macleay River after recent events, and expect this to result in further closures of bridges that cross the Macleay River.

FLOOD WARNING

The Bureau of Meteorology issued an Initial Minor Flood Warning for the Macleay River at 4.34pm EDT.

Minor flooding is likely along the Macleay River at Georges Creek.

The Macleay River at Georges Creek is likely to reach the minor flood level (6.00 m) early Thursday evening.

BRIDGES

Bellbrook Bridge is CLOSED.

As this peak progresses downstream, closure of the following bridges that cross the Macleay River is possible:

  • Toorooka Bridge (anticipated to happen overnight Thursday)
  • Temagog Bridge (anticipated to happen overnight Thursday)
  • Turners Flat Bridge
  • Sherwood Bridge

Council staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.

FLOOD GATES

As a result of the Minor Flood warning and the rainfall on Thursday, Council plans to close the flood gates at Euroka Creek and Christmas Creek.

The Cross Over and Relief gates on Kinchela Creek and Belmore River will be closed on Friday morning.
