Missing kayaker found safe and well at Albury

A man who failed to return from a kayaking trip on the Hume Dam has been found safe and well.

About 8pm yesterday (Saturday 22 April 2023), emergency services were notified a 53-year-old kayaker had failed to reach his destination or return home.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District commenced a search for the man with the assistance of PolAir, Marine Area Command, VRA Rescue NSW, NSW SES, NSW Fire & Rescue and Victoria Police.

A public appeal was also issued by police.

About 8am today (Sunday 23 April 2023) – as the search was set to resume – the kayaker presented himself to police at the command post which had been established on a boat ramp at Nouriel Park, Albury.

Police have been told the kayaker had gotten into some trouble on the Murray River overnight, and took shelter before making his return to Albury this morning.
