Mitchell 2050 Community Vision now online

By 2050, Mitchell will be a healthy, vibrant and connected community that values nature, diversity and innovation with the new Community Vision unveiled this week.

Earlier this year, Council asked the community to dream big and help shape what Mitchell could look like in 30 years.

With more than 1500 responses at events as well as more detailed discussions at workshops and through a community panel, the Mitchell 2050 Community Vision sets a clear direction and aspiration for the years ahead.

With the population set to increase quickly from 50,000 people to 170,000 people in the next two decades, 2050 was chosen to encourage communities to dream big, have bold ideas and think beyond the predicted growth rates of 2041, when the population growth is expected to stabilise.

The Vision is a key document to help guide decision-making of other agencies and support advocacy for infrastructure and services in Mitchell to create a healthy, connected and sustainable community.

Council also uses the vision to guide the focus areas in the four-year Health and Wellbeing Plan and Council Plan as well as supporting the development of financial and asset plans and the annual budget.

You can download the full Community Vision document from the Mitchell 2050 Community Vision website, which also includes information about how the vision was created, the themes, what’s next and what Mitchell Shire will look like in 2041 and beyond.
