Money flowing to hard hit Tasmanian businesses

Jane Howlett,Minister for Small Business

More than $10 million of additional funding has been distributed to over 850 Tasmanian businesses since supercharging our Micro and Small Business Border Closure Grant program earlier this week.

This is an incredible result, and will provide welcome support to those businesses, at a time when they need it most.

It will provide support to micro and small businesses operating in the tourism, hospitality, arts and events, seafood and transport (hire car, coach tours) sectors, and other businesses that have suffered severe hardship as a result of the lockdowns and border restrictions.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has worked closely with the Commonwealth Government to supercharge support for Tasmanian businesses, with $70 million now available for operators impacted by border closures.

This package provides direct support to businesses, with the existing Business Support Package boosted from $20 million to $50 million and grants of between $7,000 for micro businesses and up to $110,000 for larger businesses available.

In addition, $20 million in financial relief will also be made available for eligible businesses through payroll tax relief, waiving fees and charges such as vehicle registration and passenger transport accreditation fees and license fees payable to Parks & Wildlife.

There is no greater supporter of Tasmanian businesses than the Tasmanian and Commonwealth Liberal Governments, and this massive boost follows the unprecedented $130 million package provided to Tasmanian businesses during the height of the pandemic last year.

Full details about the program can be accessed at www.business.tas.gov.au, with eligible businesses able to apply immediately.
