More homes mean more opportunity – that’s why the Allan Labor Government is delivering more than 100 new homes in the heart of Coburg, for Victorian families who need them the most.
Minister for Housing Harriet Shing and Member for Pascoe Vale Anthony Cianflone today visited a newly completed housing development at Wardens Walk in Coburg – another project that the Greens-aligned Merri-bek Council attempted to block.
The new homes in the heart of Coburg will enable another 140 Victorian families to live in beautiful, modern and affordable homes – close to jobs, transport and the services they need.
The Warden’s Walk development has 312 homes altogether including the affordable homes and features private balconies as well as shared courtyards and a rooftop garden with city views. The apartments have split system heating and cooling, as well as car spaces and storage cages.
Families living in the new homes will have easy access to Coburg Primary School and Coburg High School, shops along Sydney Road and in the Pentridge redevelopment, as well as tram route 19 and Coburg train station.
This development boosts the Labor Government’s Affordable Housing Rental Scheme to more than 500 homes across Kensington, Ashburton, Ascot Vale, Blackburn, Cheltenham, Heidelberg, Hawthorn and Mallacoota.
This is just another part of the Labor Government’s record $6.3 billion investment to build more homes right across Victoria. With more than 10,000 new homes already underway or complete, and another 3,300 coming down the pipeline, we’re going to keep building to make sure every Victorian family has a safe and secure home.
In Merri-bek City alone, the government has invested $225 million under the Big Housing Build and other capital works programs to deliver more than 600 new homes, with over 490 already complete.
Alongside our investment in new social and affordable homes, we’re delivering Australia’s largest housing project – the Suburban Rail Loop – and approving more developments every day to make sure Victorians have more opportunities to buy and rent homes in the places they want to live.
This is also just one of a series of announcements the Government is making about more homes, more support for industry, infrastructure and parks, and more opportunity for renters, owners and buyers. To see more, visit vic.gov.au/more-homes.
As stated by Minister for Housing Harriet Shing
“We know that more homes mean more opportunity, and we’re continuing to deliver affordable homes for Victorian families.”
“Our Affordable Housing Rental Scheme is enabling more than 500 families to live in communities close to work, school and services, where they grew up and close to family and friends.”
As stated by Member for Pascoe Vale Anthony Cianflone
“We’re continuing to drive the revitalisation of Central Coburg through this safe, modern and secure housing project. By continuing to unlock and rehabilitate the former Pentridge Prison site, we’re working to solidify Central Coburg as a jobs, skills, cultural and housing hub for Melbourne’s north”.
