More improvements for Maroochy River foreshore

The latest of series of improvements to the Maroochy River foreshore, at both the western and eastern ends of Bradman Avenue, are now complete and ready for the community to enjoy.

The upgrades include new shelters, barbecues, wide pathways and landscaping, as well as a new seawall which helps protect the foreshore infrastructure and creates additional grassed space for the community.

The foreshore has been transformed in recent years with upgrades to picnic shelters, public art, a new amenities block and previous sea wall upgrades, as well as wide pathway connections and the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting to Bli Bli.

Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford said the latest additions to Cod Hole Park, at the western end of the foreshore, had provided more opportunities for people to enjoy the area.

“In addition to the shelters added a few years ago, the new shelters, furniture and pathways allow more families to enjoy this quiet spot for a barbecue or a bike ride,” Cr Hungerford said.

“The new pathways connect up with the pedestrian and bicycle bridge to make it easier for riding and walking whether you’re travelling somewhere or being active while enjoying some time outside with family and friends.”

Division 8 Councillor Jason O’Pray said the new revetment wall added to the extensive improvements already made opposite Chambers Island.

“This new rock wall is an addition to the reconstructed revetment wall we had already completed,” Cr O’Pray said.

“Finishing the job on this upgrade is going to better protect our precious foreshore and also provide a much bigger grassed area to have a picnic or play with the kids.”
