Road users are experiencing improved traffic flow through Launceston, with two key intersection upgrades now completed on Goderich Street in Invermay.
An extra right-turn lane from Goderich Street onto Forster Street and a second lane along Forster Street to Invermay Road are now in place.
A new signalised intersection at Goderich Street and Gleadow Street has also been completed.
The upgraded intersection includes new traffic signals and two right-turn lanes from Gleadow Street into Goderich Street.
The new traffic lights allow for both left and right turns onto Goderich Street, which will further improve traffic flow.
The next stage of the program will be a three-month trial of new traffic arrangements around the Charles Street Bridge.
The intersections of Goderich, Charles and Lindsay Streets, and Charles Street and The Esplanade, will change to allow left turns only.
The trial will begin on 26 October and continue until late January 2021.
These upgrades are included in the Invermay Traffic Masterplan, a comprehensive plan the Tasmanian Government is working with the City of Launceston on to deliver transport solutions that make it easier to move around the city and support economic growth.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government has committed $92.5 million to transport infrastructure improvements under the Launceston and Tamar Valley Traffic Vision.
We want to make Launceston one of Australia’s best regional cities to live, work and raise a family, and being able to move and travel in and around the city is vital to accomplishing that.
These latest upgrades and improvements follow the completion of the Mowbray Connector in September, as part of a series of projects aimed at improving the performance of the East Tamar Highway/Goderich Street corridor as a major north-east gateway to the city.
