More social housing homes across New South Wales will receive energy efficiency upgrades through an expansion of the Social Housing Energy Performance Initiative (SHEPI).
The upgrades aim to make homes more comfortable and cheaper to run. They will help residents stay warmer in winter, cooler in summer and reduce energy bills throughout the year.
The expansion of the program in New South Wales will support upgrades to around 13,500 additional social housing properties.
Upgrades may include:
- reverse cycle air conditioners
- ceiling insulation
- heat pump hot water systems
- draught proofing
- solar panels and batteries.
We’re investing a further $145.3 million for these additional upgrades. Together, this funding supports upgrades in both public and community housing.
The expansion brings overall investment in the partnership with the NSW Government to over $320 million. This will mean that around 37,500 social housing properties across the state will receive energy efficiency upgrades under the SHEPI.
In New South Wales, more than 15,000 homes have already been upgraded under the SHEPI program.
SHEPI is a $1.1 billion nationwide program. We are working with states and territories to improve the energy efficiency of around 100,000 social housing properties.
More than 41,000 social housing properties nationwide have so far benefited from the SHEPI program.
