The Liberal Government has rapidly turned around the number of children and young people in care with completed case plans in just 12 months.
At 30 June 2019, 88.9 per cent of children and young people in care have a completed case plan.
At June 30 2018, 53.4 per cent of children and young people in state care had current case plans recorded and the national average was 83.8 per cent.
Under Labor, at 30 June 2017, the figure was just 28.9.
“I’m really pleased to report that at 30 June 2019, 88.9 per cent of children and young people in care have a completed case plan,” said Minister Sanderson.
“In just 12 months, this is a huge turnaround and speaks volumes to the Liberal Government’s focus and commitment to improve outcomes for children and young people in care.
“At 30 June 2017, the figure was just 28.9 per cent under Labor. Curiously, Labor chose not to provide this figure to the Australian Productivity Commission.
“Last year, under the Liberal Government, this case plans data was released to the Australian Productivity Commission for the first time.
“Under Labor, the Australian Productivity Commission sought this data in 2011 and 2017 but it was not provided. The data was also sought under Labor during the Child Protection Systems Royal Commission and by Margaret Nyland and it was also not provided.
“Everyday, the Liberal Government continues to strive towards making improvements in our child protection system and our utmost priority remains the safety and well-being of children and young people in care.”
Case plans ensure there is a focus on each child or young person’s individual needs and future planning.
Case plans are a place where a child’s needs are recorded centrally, along with decisions including contact with family, maintaining connection to culture and plans for reunification.
