The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working hard to put roofs over heads of Tasmanians right across the State.
So far more than 100 Ancillary Dwelling Grants have been issued, with building works already underway on a number of these.
I’m pleased to also advise that funding is still available for the $2.5 million Ancillary Dwellings Grant Program, with the closing date for applications extended to the end of June 2022.
This program supports home owners to construct a new ancillary dwelling as part of their existing property, by providing grants of $10,000 to the first 250 eligible applicants that submit a complete application.
The extension of this program will help more Tasmanians add additional living quarters to their home, and support those looking for somewhere to rent.
Ancillary dwellings are self-contained additional living spaces with a floor area of up to 60m2, that add to an existing residence. They come in many forms and can be detached, like a granny flat, semi-detached, such as sharing an outside wall, or internal, like a self-contained downstairs area.
Once built, applicants are required to make their new ancillary dwelling available for rent for at least two years.
