Paddy,

I appreciate your e-mail acknowledgment of my taking office this week as ILWU Local 13 President. Local 13 has just reached a new milestone our membership is currently 8,000 members Dockworkers total which also puts great responsibility on the officers of Local 13 and myself as president to protect our work jurisdiction and daily work opportunities in the Ports of Los Angeles & Long Beach.

I would like to say thank you to ILWU International President Wille Adams along with the ITF Dockworkers Section for assisting Local 13 regarding the current Automation threat that Local 13 is facing at Pier 400 APM Terminals at the Port of Los Angeles. The delegation that attended the Maersk AGM yesterday in Copenhagen delivered the ILWU’s message of concern regarding the Pier 400 Automation Project and its negative impacts to the Local 13 membership and our local communities.

Looking forward to working with the MUA and the ITF Dockers Section to reach a successful outcome for Local 13 members regarding the APM Terminals Pier 400 Automation project at the Port of Los Angeles USA.

Yours in Solidarity,

Ray Familathe

ILWU Local 13 President
