Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Assistance Program (CAP) will boost eight local events and initiatives with a generous allocation of over $36,000 in the first round of the 2024/25 program.
Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said Council was proud to provide ongoing support for local projects that will take place throughout the Region in the coming months.
“The Community Assistance Program has consistently helped numerous events flourish and grow in popularity, establishing itself as an essential resource for our community,” Cr Wickerson said.
“We’ve watched some of these local events expand significantly and become beloved fixtures on the community calendar.
“In addition to these events, Council also dedicated $10,970 towards four Environmental and Sustainability projects and $3275 to four Community Development Grants.
“In last year’s 2023/24 program, Council proudly supported and provided funding assistance to 53 local groups, organisations and community or sporting groups – contributing over $165,000 to local events and projects.
“We are thrilled to keep this tradition going, by assisting another eight local events that will promote our Region, enhance community spirit and bring economic benefit.”
One of the successful recipients to receive funding in the latest round is the CQ All Schools Battle of the Bands, with Council contributing $2,000 towards tomorrow night’s event at 6.30pm.
Organiser Jacqui Baker said this is the 13th year the event has been running, and is held at the Pilbeam Theatre, bringing together students from numerous secondary schools from around the region.
“This is my seventh year helping with the event and my first time as solo organiser,” Ms Baker said.
“I love doing it for the smiles on the kids’ faces and I am happy to keep organising it because if I don’t do it then they miss out.
“This year there are 10 schools involved with about 70 participants from all over the Central Queensland region, from Gladstone to as far west as Moranbah taking part.
“It’s wonderful to receive the CAP funding, as it helps with the venue hire costs. It’s great we are able to hold it at the Pilbeam Theatre as it gives the students the opportunity to perform on a large stage.”
