Multi-agency search underway to locate missing man – Cessnock

A multi-agency search is continuing for a man believed to be missing in bushland near Cessnock.

Craig Wheatley, aged 48, was last seen at a licensed venue in Doyalson, around 3am on Friday 26 January 2024.

When he could not be located, officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

Craig’s vehicle, a 2022 white Toyota Hilux Workmate, was located on a track off Georges Road in the Watagan State Forest about 8pm on Tuesday 30 January 2024.

A multi-agency search of the area has since been underway with assistance from Hunter Valley Police District, PolAir, the Dog Unit, NSW RFS, VRA and NSW SES; however, Craig remains outstanding.

Police and family hold serious concerns for Craig due his disappearance being out of character.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 190cm tall, with grey hair and a grey beard. Craig was last seen wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

Police are also particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen his vehicle in the Watagan State Forest over recent days.
