Muslims Celebrate Australia Day 27 January

Ahmadiyya Muslim Association

On the 26th of January the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association celebrated Australia day at Noor Mosque in Morphett Vale and Mahmood Mosque in Beverley.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate everything great about this wonderful country and engage the local community over a shared meal. It was also an opportunity to recognise individuals who achieved academic success and contributed positively to the community over the past year.
The keynote speaker at this year’s program was Amanda Rishworth MP, Federal Member for Kingston, who highlighted the importance of us all working together and helping each other and also acknowledged the work of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, stating that:
“The contribution the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community make is enormous, whether it is helping the needy, planting trees or participating in clean-up Australia day”.
Also speaking at the event was Uncle Tamaru, elder of the Kaurna People, who acknowledged and welcomed everyone to his ancestral lands.
He highlighted that despite it being a very sad day for him and his people, he was happy to be among the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and to be moving forward together whilst sharing each other’s culture.
At the end, the President of the Association, Mr Fareed Bajwa, emphasised that “Our faith teaches us to show and demonstrate love and loyalty to the country we live in” and thanked the guests for attending this years celebrations.
