- The Crisafulli Government has delivered the next phase of Queensland’s nation-leading child safety training to ensure educators are better equipped to keep kids safe in early childhood education and care.
- Educators, supervisors and leaders in education and care services are now able to complete the Advanced Child Safety Training, which builds on the foundation training completed by 70,000 staff and volunteers.
- After the former Labor Government’s decade of decline, the Crisafulli Government is strengthening protections for Queensland children by delivering the Reportable Conduct Scheme and the Queensland Protection Commission.
The Crisafulli Government is bolstering child safety in early childhood services with new nation-leading training rolling out to strengthen protections and prevent potential risks before the occur.
The advanced courses build on the successful foundation training which has already been completed by more than 70,000 early childhood staff and volunteers in Queensland.
Training will be mandatory for people with management or control, nominated supervisors, people in day-to-day charge, and staff who work directly with children to create environments where children are safe and parents are reassured.
The Crisafulli Government has delivered Queensland’s long-overdue Reportable Conduct Scheme, which is now in place, and the new Queensland Protection Commission due to commence operations from February 2027, to strengthen protections for children and ensure organisations respond appropriately to allegations of abuse, misconduct and neglect.
The Commission will include a child safeguarding intelligence hub to bring together information from key agencies.
The reforms follow a decade of decline under the former Labor Government, which left Queensland’s childcare regulatory authority unfunded past June 2025 and would have resulted in reduced oversight over the early childhood sector.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said Queensland was at the forefront of national efforts to strengthen child safety.
“The Crisafulli Government is proud to have developed this training on behalf of the States and territories,” Minister Langbroek said.
“Advanced training will ensure staff are better prepared to identify, respond to, and prevent child safety risks.
“This is what families and the community expect to maintain the highest standards of child safe practice in education and care services.
“The early childhood education and care sector is embracing these training reforms, and I thank all staff for their ongoing commitment.”
Professor Leah Bromfield Director of the Australian Centre for Child Protection at Adelaide University thanked the government for showing leadership on this critical national initiative.
“With the launch of advanced training, we are taking another important step towards building a genuinely child-safe culture across the education and care sector. This is not optional – it is a shared responsibility nationally,” Professor Bromfield said.
“The Australian Centre for Child Protection is proud to contribute to these best-practice courses, which are informed by research, cultural knowledge, frontline expertise, and the lived experiences of survivors of child abuse.”
Australian Childcare Alliance Queensland President Majella Fitzsimmons said the Advanced Child Safety Training would provide practical support for all educators working directly with children and leaders across the early childhood education and care sector.
“The sector welcomes training that is practical, accessible and relevant to the responsibilities people hold,” Ms Fitzsimmons said.
“Having free, nationally consistent training available online means services can access high-quality professional learning and support their teams to build confidence in this critical area.”
The online self-paced training will be available via the Australian Government Department of Education website.
