Cooma Library will host two National Gallery of Australia Art Cases from Monday 20 November to Friday 15 December 2023. These themed cases tour Australia with artworks that inspire creativity, inclusivity and learning.
The Art Cases program is a core part of the National Gallery’s Touring Exhibitions, comprising five art-filled cases that travel to schools, libraries, community centres, arts centres, galleries and aged care homes across Australia.
This program gives people of all ages the opportunity to get hands-on with a diverse collection of artworks across a wide array of media, in a tactile and personal experience that few other exhibitions can match.
Cooma Library will receive the red case, a collection of small sculptures that draw on themes of the body, and the orange case, which showcases form and function pieces. These sculptures and artworks help attendees discover the expansive creativity of art and explore out-of-the-box thinking.
The Bodies (red) Art Case brings together works that explore the lived experience of biology (flesh and blood) and how our bodies influence memory, space and form. This case features works of art by Lionel Bawden, Richard Byrnes, Karla Dickens (Wiradjuri people), Matt Harding, Emily O’Brien and Neil Roberts.
The Form and Function (orange) Art Case brings together works that blur the line between art and design. Each object can be used for everyday tasks – but has been created with great care and attention to detail that goes beyond simple functionality. This case features works of art by Lulu Cooley (Pitjantjatjara people), Cinnamon Lee, Karl Lawrence Millard, and Shireen Taweel.
