NDS releases Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Guide and Toolkit

NDS has released its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Guide and Toolkit to assist WA disability service organisations to grow their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.

This resource has been developed in consultation with WA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have extensive cultural and workforce development expertise and disability service organisations.

The resource guides users through a two-stage approach to effectively build an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce, exploring:

Stage 1: Organisational Readiness

– Foundations

– Preparation of the workplace

Stage 2: Employment Strategies

– Attraction

– Recruitment

– Retention

The Toolkit includes the Organisational Self-Assessment and Continuous Improvement Plan, which assists organisations to identify their strengths, areas for improvement and actions required. This tool is based on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework, which is also included.

This new resource has already received positive feedback on the value of its guidance to assist organisations to become more culturally responsive. Using the resource, disability service organisations are better able to meet the cultural needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability.
