Sunshine Coast and Child Trauma detectives have charged a 30-year-old man following investigations into the grievous bodily harm of a 9-week-old child at Currimundi in April.
Officers will allege that around 11pm on 24 April, a 9-week-old baby boy was presented at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and was admitted to the intensive care unit with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives from the Sunshine Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit and Child Trauma Unit commenced investigations to determine the cause of the child’s injuries.
Detectives undertook extensive enquiries over a six-week period focusing on the time period from when the child was born until the child presented to hospital on 24 April.
Police will allege that the child received several serious injuries, including extensive brain and optical trauma, as well as multiple fractures.
Subsequently, detectives arrested a man at Warana yesterday afternoon, 6 June, who was known to the child.
The 30-year-old Currimundi man has now been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm (domestic violence offence against a child)
He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, 8 June.
