Network open to all to empower Cardinia Shire’s women and girls

Applications are now open to join Cardinia Shire’s Women and Girls Sport and Participation Network.

Open to all people who live, work, or play in Cardinia Shire, the network aims to:

  • improve participation and leadership of women and girls within sports and active recreation
  • establish a framework to support opportunities for females in sport and active recreation
  • provide a positive, safe, and welcoming environment for participants to build their leadership capacity

In the nearly 12 months the network has been running, it has achieved great success, with 18 members representing 11 different sporting codes across the shire.

With the network choosing what they focus on, they have been involved in leadership development sessions, advocacy, policy making and changing, the International Women’s Day Change Our Game brunch and future planning and activation for women and girls.

Council is looking to expand the network to include more people aged 16-25 years and a wider range of participants representing different sports as well as active recreation (physical activities outside of structured, competitive sport such as walking, cycling or running).

The Women and Girls Sport Participation Network was created through the Victorian Government’s Women in Sport Change our Game Community Activation Grant.

Applications close Friday 25 August.
